Kia has announced a brand new crossover EV called the Niro which is basically a refinement of the Niro model which has been updated with new tech and convenience enhancements. The Niro originally debuted as a hybrid vehicle in 2017 but since then a full-electric version of the vehicle has been also in the mix since 2018. Interestingly, the Niro shares its powertrain with the Hyundai Kona which is also sold in India.
It gets a 64 kWh battery with an EPA estimated range of around 385 kilometres developing akin to 201 bhp and a pretty capacious 53 cubic feet of cargo room. Over the 2020 model, it gets a rear occupant alert as standard, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in EX variant. It also gets remote start functionality which allows for cabin preheating and precooling.
Kia also expands its ADAS system called DriveWise which includes leading vehicle departure alert, highway driving assist and navigation based smart cruise control curve.
The Niro will start at $39,090 which is the same price as the 2020 EX model, but on the premium, EX trim it will go up to $44650, but all these numbers don’t include taxes and federal or state credits. Regardless, it looks like an interesting little EV.
